As Mayor I will be bringing back Advisory Committees. The pulse of the community comes from those who are actively engaged in business, sport & recreation, arts & culture, and service providers. For Mayor and Council to fully understand our community needs and wants we need to hear from you. Meetings would be quarterly and have a council liaison who would bring back information to council.
A key piece to growth and sustainability of our community. The Institute on Municipal Finance & Governance (IMFG) says:
" Ensuring a growing and vibrant economy is a priority for all orders of government, including municipalities."
When development increase so does our tax base- which decreases the burden to all in the community. Tourism is important to our Community and should be be a part of Economic Development, we need to put a greater focus on marketing who we are and what we have to offer.
Families are struggling and we need to work on partnerships that would bring 24 hour /7 days a week affordable Daycare. Further we need to advocate to the Province for Before and After school care in our schools; allowing more spaces in private facilities.
Remove stigma within the community for those who are living with mental health issues, addiction, immigrants, refugees, and the LGBTQ+ community.
We need to have a public database for quick reference on wrap around services in the community and rural areas.
We need to work with developers to ensure the incorporation of affordable housing for seniors, families, and those living on a fixed income. We need to review our OCP and bring it up to date, to be inline with the needs of our community.
We need to assess the land the city (taxpayers) own and utilize it in a forward thinking manner and plan for future needs. We need to advocate to the Provincial Gov't and the corporations who the current brownfields (contaminated properties) to clean them up and ensure they can be developed.
like other communities in the Province and Country we are over stressed by broken systems. We need to advocate and support solutions that will benefit the increase in emergency service providers.
We need to be at the forefront of advocating our community. Such as attending Nursing recruitment forums, supporting BC Ambulance workers, health authorities recruitment of Doctors. Looking outside the box for innovative initiatives.
Taking an advocacy role to support wrap around services in our community f0r Mental Health, Addictions, Crime Prevention, and Victim Services.
We have a huge workload a head of us and as a Full Time Mayor I am committed to the work needed to fill the gap in our emergency services.
Much work has been done in the last 4 years to bring our budget and fiscal responsibility in line. Funds from the Peace River Accord (Fair Share Funds) that were meant for Capital projects has been moved from operations to capital and the target set is obtainable and secures the much need work on infrastructure.
Lease agreements with local not for profit groups have been completed and the expectations of the City clearly outlined.
Sourcing grants and matched funding will continue to be a priority for me, when we look at projects and upgrades.
We need to have focus on an asset management plan, an updated master transportation plan, plan and build reserve funds for the future. We need to look after what we have and ensure that we find a balance of needs and wants.
